Located roughly 22 km south-east of Brisbane, the Redland City suburb of Wellington Point is mainly a residential area and is bordered by Birkdale in the west and Ormiston to the south east.

A surveyor named the area in 1842 after the Battle of Waterloo between the French led by Napoleon and the British led by the Duke of Wellington. Waterloo Bay and King Island were also named by the same surveyor.
